TIANA PACED THE CONFINES of her new home. Sheâd watched the other men quickly and efficiently unload all the stuff sheâd boxed up to bring home into the cabin, wondering where Mick had gone. The days and nights on the road from Chicago to California had been a form of sweet torture being so close to him, yet not close enough. Sheâd seen the way he watched her and knew he wanted her. She wanted him every bit as fiercely, only he stayed a good ten feet away from her, never getting close enough that theyâd accidentally touch. âThe man is so frustrating,â she grumbled to herself.
Sheâd sent her sister and Legend home, knowing they needed to settle into their normal routine because the little guy had started to get almost as grumpy as his father, which was saying a lot. King, although she loved him to pieces, the man took grumpy to a whole other level.
âI should probably go to bed.â
Stacks of boxes glared from across the room while restlessness itched under her skin. In Chicago sheâd have gone to a coffeehouse and worked on a project or did something with Shayla.
She squatted down and ripped into one of the boxes instead of thinking what she coulda, shoulda been doing, finding places to put the treasures sheâd collected. A couple hours later, she had stacks of boxes sheâd flattened, feeling like sheâd accomplished something.
Looking around the now homey space that appeared more like her, she lifted her tank top to wipe a bit of sweat from her brow. Her top came away dirty, making her grimace. She walked into the bedroom, smiling at the neatly made bed. With the mound of pillows and the fluffy comforter, she tried to picture Mick lying amongst her things. âHeâs definitely more a dark and manly type than my girly flare. And why am I even thinking of him here?â She stomped her way through to the bathroom, angry at herself. She was being stupid for allowing him time and space in her mind, when he clearly had wiped his hands of her, after her breakdown on the side of the road.
The triple hamper that was marked bold words on each, was right inside her walk-in closet off to the side of the bathroom. Obviously, whoever designed the cabin had figured the owner would be a single person or couple with no children, with one large walk-in closet that had an access from the bathroom. She didnât mind, actually preferred it that way. Sheâd taken neat freak to a level that had driven her roommate a little crazy, but since sheâd been the one to clean usually, it worked. In one of the drawers, she grabbed her shower cap and covered her hair before stepping under the warm spray.
Being back in California was sure to bring back memories, but she refused to let them rule her. The shower used to be something she would luxuriate in, taking long minutes washing and rinsing then shaving.
